FBI source describes Biden document whistleblower as being 'highly credible'

June 5, 2023

Fox News reported earlier this year that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley were informed about an FBI document which allegedly links President Joe Biden with bribery.

The network cited an unnamed FBI insider on Friday who said the unnamed whistleblower is a "highly credible" source who has "been used by the bureau in multiple investigative matters."

Document said to cover $5 million scheme

The FBI document in question is said to be an FD-1023 form, dated June 30, 2020 which outlines a $5 million criminal bribery scheme going back to when Biden served as vice president.

"We know the FBI has very serious allegations against then-Vice President Biden. The question is what did they do with it. Did they investigate the leads or sweep it under the rug?" a spokesperson for Grassley was quoted as telling Fox News.

"This is exactly why we need transparency into the document and what the FBI did with it. That’s what Sen. Grassley has sought from the start," he added.

Fox News also reported on Thursday that the FBI was preparing to deliver the document to Capitol Hill on Monday under an agreement reached with FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Wray to be held in contempt of Congress

However, Comer announced on Monday that the deal had fallen apart and he is moving to hold Wray in contempt of Congress.

"At the briefing, the FBI again refused to hand over the unclassified record to the custody of the House Oversight Committee. And we will now initiate contempt of Congress hearings this Thursday," the Kentucky Republican said in a statement.

"Given the severity and complexity of the allegations contained within this record, Congress must investigate further. The investigation is not dead. This is only the beginning," he pledged.

Comer went on to say the FBI has confirmed that the document "has not been disproven and is currently being used in an ongoing investigation by a confidential human source who provided information about the vice president by being involved in a criminal bribery scheme is a trusted, highly credible informant who has been used by the FBI for over ten years and has been paid over 6 figures."

"These are facts and no amount of spin and frankly, lies from the White House or congressional Democrats can change this information," he concluded.

FBI calls contempt vote "unwarranted"

Fox News noted that for its part, the FBI released a statement in which it claimed to have "continually demonstrated its commitment to accommodate the committee's request, including by producing the document in a reading room at the U.S. Capitol."

"This commonsense safeguard is often employed in response to congressional requests and in court proceedings to protect important concerns, such as the physical safety of sources and the integrity of investigations," it continued.

"The escalation to a contempt vote under these circumstances is unwarranted," the federal law enforcement agency insisted.
