FBI surveilled Rep. Scott Perry days before they seized his phone, records: Report
New information regarding the investigations into Republicans after the 2020 election have emerged, and Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) seems to have been targeted before an investigation even began, new unclassified documents revealed.
According to the New York Post, Perry's congressional office and private residence were targeted by FBI surveillance teams about a month before his cell phone was seized by federal agents, shining new light onto what might have happened at the time.
The information was revealed as new information about "Arctic Frost" was released earlier this month, which was an operation under former President Joe Biden that seemingly targeted hundreds of Republicans and GOP-aligned groups.
Rep. Perry was even reportedly "trailed" by FBI agents in July and August of 2022.
What's going on?
The FBI documents from the surveillance period pretty much tell the whole story of what was happening, and some of the details are downright creepy.
"Goal from surveillance is to get a pattern of life, identify his vehicle, and possibly identify a location to serve him with a SW [seizure warrant]," one of the FBI documents read.
The Post noted:
Agents watched for Perry and took log notes on July 25 at his home “just south of Harrisburg,” Pennsylvania and at two workplaces in Washington, DC, other documents showed, while on Aug. 4, the congressman was surveilled at a “recreation center” in the nation’s capital.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH), who was placed in charge of digging into the details of Arctic Frost, was the first to obtain the documents.
Russell Dye, a spokesman for Jordan, questioned why FBI agents were surveilling Perry while he was doing his job as an elected lawmaker in Washington D.C.
“Why were apparently undercover FBI agents surveilling Rep. Perry while representing his constituents at the US Capitol?” Dye asked.
Who approved it?
Dye also raised questions as to how such an operation at the Capitol was even approved or green lit.
"Was this something approved by Speaker Pelosi? Was it approved by the Democrat’s sham January 6th Committee? Should other Members be concerned that they were being watched for carrying out their constitutional duties?" Dye added.
It wasn't long after the surveillance period that Perry's cell phone was seized.
Five days after the last surveillance date, the FBI executed its warrant while Perry was on vacation in New Jersey on Aug. 9 during the congressional recess.
It'll be fascinating to see what else comes from Jordan and his committee, who are diligently digging into Arctic Frost and what all it entailed.
