FBI was warned about possible New Orleans-type attack: report
A new report indicates that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was warned about the possibility of a terror attack, such as the one that was recently carried out in New Orleans.
According to Just the News, the FBI has been aware of this possibility since at least April 2024, when FBI Director Christopher Wray admitted as much to Congress.
Nonetheless, Shamsud-Din Jabbar was still able to plow into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street on New Year's.
Jabbar, we now know, was inspired by ISIS.
Here's what the FBI knew:
According to Just the News, Wray warned Congress that, given events that have been occurring in the Middle East, a terrorist attack committed by someone inspired by ISIS was becoming increasingly more likely to take place on U.S. soil.
Per the outlet:
The FBI began sounding an alarm last year that events in the Middle East, like ISIS terror attacks after the fall of Afghanistan, could inspire lone wolves in the United States to commit attacks domestically.
Just the News goes on to note that Jabbar's attack would certainly seem "to fit a pattern the director told members of Congress he was worried about."
The outlet continues:
FBI Director Christopher Wray specifically warned in April in testimony before Congress that there was an increasing danger that individuals in the United States could be radicalized by events in the Middle East to carry out attacks on U.S. soil as homegrown terrorists.
Fast-forward to New Year's, and such an attack occurred.
"Look at what has occurred"
President-Elect Donald Trump and his daughter-in-law Lara Trump have also argued that the Biden administration's botched Afghanistan withdrawal and the recent New Orleans terrorist attack are related.
Lara Trump recently said:
Look at what has occurred over the last four years in this country – the fact that you had such a horrific withdrawal from Afghanistan, you left a vacuum and a space in the Middle East for terrorist cells to grow and prosper.
The FBI has indeed confirmed that Jabbar was an ISIS supporter.
The New York Post has reported:
But Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the 42-year-old Army vet from Texas who mowed down dozens of New Year’s revelers, killing 15 and injuring many more on Bourbon Street on Jan. 1, was flying an ISIS flag on his rented truck. Jabbar also posted five videos claiming to have been “inspired by ISIS” and expressing a “desire to kill” prior to his spree, which ended with him being gunned down by police after he exited the vehicle.
Now, Trump, the incoming president, will look to get this situation back under control to prevent such attacks from happening again.
