Federal appeals court upheld Texas law requiring ID when voting by mail
The entire idea of not requiring identification to vote is just ludicrous and was obviously created by Democrats in order to open the window to voter fraud.
Thank God, a federal appeals court in Texas has upheld a law requiring ID to vote by mail in the state.
The three-judge panel agreed with lawmakers that requiring ID did not violate the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because it is necessary to confirm voters' eligibility, which all laws require.
“Mail-in ballots are not secure,” Judge James Ho wrote in the unanimous opinion.
"Significant threat"
The judges said that “mail-in ballot fraud is a significant threat” and ID requirements were needed to ensure that voting conformed to the laws.
“The ID number requirement is obviously designed to confirm that each mail-in ballot voter is precisely who he claims he is. And that is plainly ‘material’ to ‘determining whether such individual is qualified under State law to vote,’” Ho continued.
It's all too easy to commit voter fraud when ID is not required, and almost impossible to prevent it if it does happen.
Tired argument
The tired argument that such laws disenfranchise the most disadvantaged voters is completely invalid in an age when people get asked for their ID pretty much everywhere, including beer and liquor stores, restaurants, most healthcare settings, and potentially any retail or event location that takes credit cards.
Pretty much anyone with a social security number can get an acceptable ID, and that's where the real game of voter ID is exposed.
It's really not about enabling voters who don't have a way to get IDs. If that were really the issue, there would be "get your ID" drives just like there are voter registration drives.
The real issue here is that lots and lots of illegal immigrants have gotten on the voter rolls illegally by not having to show ID, and have been able to vote absentee, where no one can possibly check their eligibility or status.
Not fair
Voter ID is one of the biggest fights Republicans need to have if there's any chance of keeping a majority in future elections.
The New York Post reported in June 2024 that 46 states give out voter registration forms to illegal immigrants with drivers license and welfare benefit applications, and they don't require ID to get them registered.
How is this a fair election process? Every other state needs to follow in Texas's footsteps on this one.
