FEMA director Cameron Hamilton fired after undercutting Trump during congressional testimony
When you undercut President Donald Trump at a congressional hearing, your career will likely be immediately cut short -- just ask the now-fired director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
According to the Washington Examiner, Cameron Hamilton, who directed the agency until earlier this week, made remarks during a congressional testimony that didn't sit well with the president, ultimately costing him his job.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Hamilton's termination to reporters this week, indicating that his comments during the testimony were the final straw.
The Trump administration has been crystal clear in that it's only interested in employee people who are willing to continue the president's vision.
What happened?
The White House press secretary explained to reporters earlier this week why Hamilton was ousted after his testimony before Congress.
"My understanding is that this individual testified saying something that was contrary to what the president believes and the goals of this administration with regards to FEMA policy,” Leavitt said. “And so, of course, we want to make sure that people in every position are advancing the administration’s goals."
After being asked several follow-up questions by attending reporters, Leavitt directed them to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees FEMA.
Leavitt added, "We leave it up to our great Cabinet secretaries when it comes to personnel matters."

Hamilton's remarks did not sit well with the president and the White House, reports indicated:
Hamilton was fired less than one day after he told House lawmakers on the Appropriations Committee for Homeland Security that he did not believe the agency should be abolished. The remark marked a break from Trump, who has previously called for the agency’s dismantling.
Social media reaction
There were mixed reviews regarding Hamilton's firing across social media, with some applauding the move and others questioning it.
