The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) just fired three more individuals.

According to The Hill, this is related to the scandal that took place in Florida following Hurricane Milton.

You, the reader, will likely remember how FEMA officials skipped homes, victimized by the natural disaster, that had signs in their yards in support of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump.

It appears that the investigation into the incident is finally coming to an end.

The latest

Acting FEMA administrator Cameron Hamilton recently wrote a letter to U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the head of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, explaining that the investigation has "concluded."

Hamilton wrote:

That investigation has concluded, and upon my review of all related materials, three additional individuals have been terminated. This action has been taken both because of their failure to meet the standards of conduct and because it is essential that the entire workforce understand that this incident was reprehensible and this type of behavior will not be tolerated at FEMA.

Hamilton went on to claim that the "investigation found no evidence that this was a systemic problem, nor that it was directed by agency or field leadership."

The Office of Professional Responsibility conducted this investigation.

Surely FEMA is hoping that this puts the issue to bed and that the agency can now move forward.

Background

This incident was first reported by the Daily Wire.

Per the outlet:

A FEMA supervisor told workers in a message to “avoid homes advertising Trump” as they canvassed Lake Placid, Florida, to identify residents who could qualify for federal aid, internal messages viewed by The Daily Wire reveal. The supervisor, Marn’i Washington, relayed this message both verbally and in a group chat used by the relief team, multiple government employees told The Daily Wire.

The New York Post reports that "The agency fired Washington the following month, with Criswell calling her directive 'a clear violation of FEMA’s core values and principles to help people regardless of their political affiliation.'"

Washington, in contrast to what Hamilton now say, claimed that the order actually came from FEMA team leaders. It was further alleged that similar orders were given during the North Carolina hurricane.

It remains to be seen how this is all going to play out. Trump, for his part, has suggested that he would like to see FEMA eliminated if it cannot be fixed. Trump suggested that disaster relief efforts would be more successful if leadership in the impacted states took the lead.
