Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who once dominated the news cycle for several reasons and gained strong support from the Democratic Party, is making new headlines with a curious statement. 

According to Fox News, during a recent appearance on "The View," Fetterman once again called for the ouster of fellow Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez (NJ).

Fetterman argued that if Republican Rep. George Santos (R-NY) can be booted from Congress, Menendez's scandal -- equally bad, if not much worse -- deserves the same fate.

Menendez was recently federally charged for his alleged involvement in a massive bribery scheme.

He won't drop out

Though the charges he faces are serious, to say the least, Menendez has refused calls to resign -- calls that have come from within the deepest circles of his own party, among others.

The co-hosts of  "The View" first pointed out the recent historic ouster of Santos, which Fetterman acknowledged. But the Pennsylvania senator quickly brought up Menendez.

"But to me, I think the more important picture is that we have a colleague in the Senate that has actually did more sinister and serious kinds of things. Senator Menendez. He needs to go!" Fetterman said.

"And if you are going to expel Santos, how can you allow somebody like Menendez to remain in the Senate?" Fetterman continued.

The Pennsylvania senator took a shot at the specifics of Menendez's case, saying, "And you know, Santos’ lies were almost funny, and like he, you know, landed on the moon. That kinda stuff. Whereas, you know, Menendez I think is really a Senator for Egypt, not New Jersey."

Social media reacts

Though many, especially on the right, are not fans of Fetterman's politics, the PA senator was praised by all sides for making a statement that only seems fair, given the current situation.

"Absolutely, and good on Fetterman for applying ethical behavior to both parties instead of just being tribal," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Interesting things coming from this man."

Fetterman recently made several strong pro-Israel statements as the Israel-Hamas war rages on, garnering praise from many and extreme criticism from the anti-Israel sector of his party.
