Fetterman says Democrats embracing socialism are 'morons'

When Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) was asked about a Gallup poll showing that a majority of Democrats under age 50 have embraced socialism, he said it was a major issue for the Democrat party and warned against doing so, using a recent experience in Croatia.

“I literally was in a former communist nation, and I asked that," he said to a reporter. "I said, ‘Some people in my party, some of the lefties are talking about socialism now. What do you think?’ And he’s like, ‘That’s the worst thing ever. You would never want to live here, I’ve lived through that kind of a thing."

The person in Croatia that Fetterman talked to went on, "You’re going to need a reality check if you ever adopt any of those things. You know, like, you are morons. It’s like, it was a nightmare for us, and now we are a free market nation.'"

The people in Croatia were “mystified” why Americans are “even having that conversation in our nation, Fetterman added.

The poll

According to the poll, 42% of Democrats viewed capitalism favorably, while 66% viewed socialism favorably.

The shift is mostly among Democrats under 50; the poll noted that the views of Democrats over age 50 have not changed much.

Most Democrat political candidates still won't openly call themselves socialists or say that they favor socialism over capitalism because they know they can't get elected doing so, but then there's Zohran Mamdani, the Democrat Mayoral candidate who has been loud and proud about his socialist views.

Most recently, Mamdani suggested opening government-run grocery stores in New York City.

He also said police should not respond to domestic violence calls, drawing criticism from survivors of domestic violence.

"Not even a Democrat"

According to Fetterman in July, Mamdani is "not even a Democrat," given the fact that Fetterman does not agree with any of his policies.

“Everything that I’ve read on him, I don’t really agree with virtually any of it, politically,” Fetterman said.

Democrat Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY) and others in the party have suggested that Mamdani and others who identify as democratic socialists should “create their own party."

Rep. Laura Gillen (D-NY) and New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D), running as an independent against Mamdani, among others, have said that he is "too extreme" to represent New York.

Clearly, the party is splintering, which is good news for conservatives (although we have our own problems to deal with).
