Gisele Barreto Fetterman, the wife of Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), was once a rather prolific poster on social media in support of her politician husband, but her conspicuous absence from the platforms over the past few months has fueled speculation among some that the pair are experiencing marital troubles and have separated.

Those rumors appear to be unfounded, however, as Gisele just reappeared on the X platform to inform everyone that everything is fine and she has simply been taking a break from social media, Newsweek reported.

Separately, the Democratic senator also addressed the rumors and insisted that the pair remained happily married together while he explained that his wife's social media absence was due to the intense online abuse directed her way by pro-Palestinian leftists outraged over his oft-expressed staunch support for Israel in its conflict against Hamas.

Gisele taking a break from abusive social media

Newsweek reported that speculation ran wild in recent weeks over the apparent deletion of Gisele Fetterman's Instagram and X accounts, including all of the pictures of her and Sen. Fetterman, after previously being a highly active user on both platforms.

Some of the rumors suggested that the couple had split in part because of a perceived transformation in some of the Democratic senator's positions, including his call for tougher border security and his support for Israel, among other issues.

On Tuesday, however, as the speculation reached a fever pitch, the senator's wife reactivated her X account and wrote, "I posted several months ago that i would be talking a break from social media. I was bored with it … i am a Pisces … it wasn’t adding anything to my life .. but leaving social media is somehow more exhausting than having it?!"

She added in a follow-up post, "You guys really are terrible, respectfully."

Newsweek noted that just prior to deactivating her accounts, Fetterman posted on November 17 that she was "3 weeks into a social media break that may last another month or forever. PS. treating someone as simply someone's spouse is insulting and minimizing. PSS. did you know male spouses don't get treated this way? PSSS. no more cute animal pics for you."

Fetterman says marital speculation is "absurd" and "outrageous"

The Daily Mail reported this week that Sen. Fetterman also responded to the speculative rumors about the status of the relationship between him and his wife and shut down any talk of them experiencing any sort of marital problems.

"She's right upstairs in my office right now. And this is absurd. I am not even sure why that we'd even be addressing," Fetterman told a reporter for the outlet.

"I don't even understand why there's rumors because my wife clearly got tired of the online abuse from the same kind of crazies that show up at my home on Friday nights," he continued with a reference to the pro-Palestinian protesters who've harangued him outside his home in recent weeks, to whom he has responded with mockery and trolling by waving an Israeli flag in their view.

"So how that now can turn into there's an issue with our marriage is outrageous," the senator added. "Like I said, she's here in town right now and everything is wonderful."

Shutting down rumors with humor

The Washington Examiner reported that Sen. Fetterman and his wife also seemed to shut down the rumors of the demise of their marriage with an appearance together on Wednesday at the annual Congressional Dinner hosted by the Washington Press Club.

The senator, decked out in black shorts and a black hoodie that looked like a tuxedo, posed for pictures with his wife -- to whom he has been married since 2008 and has three children -- and joked to reporters, "I’m here with Gisele. Clearly, we’re separated."
