The Blaze reported that Chicago just saw another horrifying weekend that left 10 people dead and another 40 injured.

Viral video from one incident on Sunday showed a small group of teenagers walking across an empty lot towards an adjacent street.

Storm of automatic gunfire results in one dead and three people wounded

Upon turning the corner, they produced automatic weapons and unleashed a hail of bullets that killed 14-year-old Pierre Johnson. An 18 and a 19-year-old both sustained critical injuries while a 21-year-old man was hit in the hand.

Police were also shot at when they arrived at the scene, leading them to fire back and hit a 16-year-old, who was wounded in the leg.

He was charged with six counts of attempted first-degree murder of peace officers, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward a vehicle occupied by peace officers, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle, and unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21.

One killed and six wounded after shooting breaks out at memorial event

Meanwhile, ABC News reported that another mass shooting event occurred on Sunday at an event meant to honor a local resident who died in a car crash.

"They were out there celebrating and then something happened, and a verbal altercation occurred, and somebody began shooting, or multiple people began shooting," Chicago Police Department Deputy Chief Adnardo Gutierrez was quoted as saying.

A 25-year-old woman was subsequently pronounced dead while another six victims were hospitalized, one of whom was in critical condition.

This latest carnage comes after a bloody Memorial Day weekend in which 10 individuals lost their lives and another 43 were wounded.

"This is the summer norm for our beloved city"

That fact was noted by Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez, who previously criticized former Mayor Lori Lightfoot for being too soft on crime.

"Chicago suffered a mass shooting that lasted all Memorial Day weekend. 53 shot, 10 killed," Lopez wrote. "Sadly, no 'thoughts [and] prayers' will be said, white wooden crosses erected, or poverty pimps demanding action."

"This is the summer norm for our beloved city," the local politician lamented before adding, "And we are only getting started."
