Fighter jets respond to airspace violation at Biden's vacation location

Fighter jets responded to an airspace violation that occurred Friday morning near Lake Tahoe, President Joe Biden's vacation spot.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) revealed as much in a press release that it published on Aug. 25, 2023.

For those concerned, it does not appear that Biden's vacation was affected by the incident.

The violation

NORAD's press release states, "Two NORAD F-16 fighter aircraft and a U.S. Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin responded to a civilian aircraft that violated a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) area near Lake Tahoe, Nevada, this morning."

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a regulation that states:

No person may operate an aircraft over or in the vicinity of any area to be visited or traveled by the President, the Vice President, or other public figures contrary to the restrictions established by the FAA and published in a NOTAM (Notice to Air Mission).

This, apparently, is the airspace violation that occurred on Friday.

The violator "was escorted out of the area"

NORAD press release continues, "The civilian aircraft violated the TFR at about 7:50 a.m. PT and was escorted out of the area."

NORAD goes on to explain why it released flares during the incident.

It writes:

During this event, the fighter aircraft dispensed flares – that may have been visible to the public – to gain attention from the pilot. Flares were employed with the highest regard for safety of the intercepted aircraft and people on the ground. The flares burn out quickly and completely and there is no danger to people on the ground when dispensed.

Biden's vacation continues, uninterrupted

The White House, following the above incident, released a statement, saying, "The situation was resolved without incident and with no impact to the President."

Biden has been vacationing at Lake Tahoe since Tuesday. He is staying at the $18 million California home of Tom Steyer, the businessman and former Democratic presidential candidate.

Biden is joined on the vacation by several members of his family, including his wife, First Lady Jill Biden; his daughter Ashley; his son, Hunter; Hunter's wife, Melissa Cohen; and others.

The White House says that Biden is paying the fair market rental value of the house during the vacation. There is little doubt that the White House felt the need to make such a statement because of the recent, significant corruption claims that Biden has faced.

Reports indicate that Biden has spent nearly 40% of his presidency on vacation. In terms of real numbers, that adds up to over 370 vacation days. How many vacation days have you had in the past couple of years?
