Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, who was fired this week by President Donald Trump but refused to step down from the position, is lawyering up with familiar legal counsel.

According to the New York Post, Cook has reportedly hired Abbe Lowell, who represented Hunter Biden, "to fight President Trump’s effort to oust her from the central bank over allegations that she committed mortgage fraud."

Lowell is also representing another Trump political enemy -- New York Attorney General Letitia James. The Trump administration has leveled similar charges against her.

Trump dismissed Cook this week for "cause." Cook responded by not only refusing to step down, but also vowed to file a lawsuit against the Trump administration to fight her termination.

What's going on?

Lowell issued a blunt statement upon being retained by Cook for legal counsel, as he plans to fight the termination.

"President Trump has no authority to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook," Lowell's statement read.

"His attempt to fire her, based solely on a referral letter, lacks any factual or legal basis," the former Hunter Biden attorney added. "We will be filing a lawsuit challenging this illegal action."

Lowell has apparently made a career of representing clients currently and formerly under fire by the Trump administration.

The Post noted:

Lowell, a former partner at white-shoe Winston & Strawn, started his own practice in May — and it’s already stacked with clients under fire from the Trump administration.

Social media reaction

Many across social media had plenty to say about Cook's hiring of Lowell.

"If the President of the United States can't fire her .. who can? Does she think she's untouchable? Does she think she has a lifetime appointment? If a president can appoint her then a president can fire her. She needs to be put in her place," one X user wrote.

Another X user wrote, "Why did Lisa Cook hire Abbe Lowell, the atty representing Letitia James and other Trump enemies? Who is paying the legal fees?"

It'll be interesting to see the outcome of the fight for Cook to keep her job.
