While California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff has long accused former President Donald Trump of illegally colluding with Russia, one member of Congress insists that he's the real criminal.

Fox News reported late last month that Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna introduced a resolution to censure Schiff and force him to pay a $16 million fine.

Fine would cover "half of the cost" of Trump-Russia investigation

"The GOP Conference agrees that Adam Schiff has betrayed the trust of the American people, purposely abused positions of extreme authority, lied continuously, and as such, must be held to account," Fox News quoted Luna as saying.

"Accordingly, the resolution requires Rep. Schiff to pay a $16 million dollar fine, half of the cost American taxpayers were forced to pay for the Russia hoax investigation," she explained.

Luna  pointed to Special Counsel John Durham's report, which debunked claims that Trump worked with the Russian government to win the 2016 presidential race.

The Washington Examiner noted that Luna also spoke with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo about her resolution this past weekend during an appearance on "Sunday Morning Futures."

"He's a criminal"

"He's a criminal," Luna said of the Democratic lawmaker, adding, "What he did was wrong. And, Adam Schiff, you will be held accountable."

"We are going to fine that man $16 million for using his position to lie to the American people and ultimately push something that not only destroyed our country, ripped us apart, but also too was responsible for almost, I believe, maybe even potentially permanently damaging foreign relations," she insisted.

For his part, Schiff responded by putting out a tweet in which he characterized Luna's resolution as nothing more than politically motivated payback.

"MAGA extremists just filed a motion to censure and fine me $16 million because I stood up to Donald Trump and his allies," he wrote.

Schiff says that his is "not backing down"

"They’re 8 days away from defaulting on our debt, but Speaker McCarthy and his MAGA allies would rather try to silence me. But I’m not backing down. Ever," Schiff declared.

In addition to attacking Schiff, Luna also addressed accusations of bribery involving President Joe Biden. She told Bartiromo that FBI Director "Christopher Wray needs to do his job [and] answer to Congress."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
