Former AOC aide will try to oust Pelosi in 2026

The man who helped Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) get elected to her first term in the House has decided to make a run for Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) seat in an effort to get rid of the Democrat establishment.

Saikat Chakrabarti announced on Wednesday that he will challenge Pelosi, ramping up a feud with her that began in 2018.

“Pelosi said the Democrats don’t need to change. I disagree,” Chakrabarti wrote in a post to X. “I know it might seem it’s a little early to start running. But the fact is, it’s almost impossible to defeat incumbents in our system — even at a time when both Congress and the Democratic Party stand at record-low approval ratings.”

Pelosi, now 84, stepped down from House leadership after the 2022 election cycle, when Republicans gained a majority and would have ousted her as Speaker anyway.

Long tenure

She still maintains a prominent place in the Democrat party, however, because of her long tenure in the House and her seniority compared to many of her colleagues.

Chakrabarti mentioned his displeasure with Pelosi for blocking Ocasio-Cortez's bid to become the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee after saying she valued the youngsters in her party and wanted to see more of them in powerful positions.

Apparently, this sentiment doesn't apply to Ocasio-Cortez, however.

Instead, Pelosi pushed Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), who is almost 70, for the position.

It looks like her lobbying worked, but Ocasio-Cortez is staying in it until the vote to try to get her way.

"Paralyzed and unprepared"

"Watching Trump and Elon [Musk] freely unleash chaos in their illegal seizure of government, it’s become clear to me that the Democratic Party needs new leadership. I don’t understand how DC’s Democratic leaders are so paralyzed and unprepared for this moment after living through President Trump’s first term — and after Trump and Elon warned us exactly what they planned to do," Chakrabarti said.

Pelosi isn't exactly in the strongest position to run again in 2026, despite the fact that she has already filed the paperwork to do so.

Weeks after she did so, she fell and had to have hip replacement surgery.

Her word salad is getting almost as bad as former President Joe Biden's, but it seems like she's going to hang on to power for as long as humanly possible.

That is, as long as the people let her hold on to that power.
