Sports fans were saddened this week to learn that baseball legend Jim Price passed away at the age of 81.

According to the Associated Press, Price was a catcher for the Detroit Tigers before pursuing a successful career in broadcasting.

Price remembered as "a treasured member of the Tigers organization"

Price's death was made public in a statement released by the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday that read, "We mourn the passing of Jim Price, a treasured member of the Tigers organization for decades. He spent all five years of his playing career wearing the Olde English ‘D’, including the 1968 World Series championship season."

Bally Sports Detroit reported that a moment of silence was held in Price's honor prior to a game between the Detroit Tigers and the Minnesota Twins.

"People loved listening to Jim Price"

Bally Sports Detroit also featured an interview on Tuesday with Dan Dickerson, who spent years calling games alongside Price.

"I want to celebrate his life tonight," Dickerson said of late colleague before stressing that "people loved listening to Jim Price."

Tributes to Price quickly appeared online, including from sportscaster Dan Hasty, who tweeted, "Some kids grow up wanting to be a firefighter, an astronaut, etc."

Colleague says Price "helped make dreams become reality"

"I wanted to call [Tigers} games with Jim Price. At 10 years old, I got that chance at a TigerFest. 20 years later, I got to do it for real," Hasty explained before adding, "Rest Easy, Jimmy — a great man who helped make dreams become reality."

Fox News 2 anchor Amy Andrews spoke up as well, tweeting, "Rest in heaven, Jim Price. We’ve lost a tremendous voice. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and the [Tigers] Organization."
