Former California congresswoman Katie Porter aims to replace Gavin Newsom as governor
Term limit restrictions will prevent California's controversial Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom from running for reelection next year.
While Newsom is known for promoting far-left policies, a woman who wants to replace him has taken some shocking positions of her own.
Rep. Katie Porter kicks off gubernatorial run with social media post
According to the Daily Caller, former California Democratic Rep. Katie Porter announced earlier this week that she will be a gubernatorial candidate in 2026.
What California needs now is a little bit of hope and a whole lot of grit. That's why I'm running for Governor. pic.twitter.com/x77lCP8dUY

"In Congress, I held the Trump Administration’s feet to the fire when they hurt Americans," Porter said in a video posted to social media on Tuesday.
"As Governor, I won’t ever back down when Trump hurts Californians — whether he’s holding up disaster relief, attacking our rights or our communities, or screwing over working families to benefit himself and his cronies," the ex-lawmaker went on to add.
Porter once called on former president not to "completely shut the border"
Porter's campaign website pledges that she will protect California's extensive energy regulations, which many critics have blamed for the state's chronic power shortages.
The former congresswoman is also committed to "defending [Californians'] health care," which likely refers to her support for abortion and transgender ideology.
What's more, the Daily Caller recalled how Porter at one point called on then President Joe Biden not to seal off America's southern border.
"Policies that completely shut the border, that eliminate any ability for anyone to seek humanitarian parole or asylum, they end up keeping and trapping the most vulnerable migrants," CalMatters quoted her as saying in 2023.
Newsom moderates transgender stance ahead of possible 2028 White House run
Meanwhile, there has been speculation that Newsom may run for president in 2028 and he recently raised eyebrows by moderating his position on transgender athletes.
As Fox News reported, the California governor revealed his shifting stance last week during an interview with conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
At one point in their conversation, Kirk brought up transgender track and field athlete AB Hernandez, saying, "The young man who's about to win the state championship in the long jump in female sports, that shouldn't happen."
"Well, I think it's an issue of fairness. I completely agree with you on that," told Kirk before adding that Hernandez's involvement was "deeply unfair."
