Many Democrats have slammed President Donald Trump's recent decision to strike Iranian targets, with some suggesting that he should be impeached.

However, that didn't prevent one former Clinton administration official from admitting that Trump made the right move.

Ex-staffer welcomes "bold steps defending America’s interests"

As Fox News reported, that acknowledgment was made this past weekend by Jamie Metzl, who served as a National Security Council staff member under former President Bill Clinton.

"I am not a fan of many of Donald Trump‘s actions, but I will speak openly and honestly when he takes bold steps defending America’s interests, as he did tonight," Metzl wrote in a social media post on Saturday evening.

Metzl followed those remarks up with another post on Sunday in which he argued that former Vice President Kamala Harris "would not have had the courage or fortitude to take such an essential step as the president took last night."

"Iran has been at war with the United States for 46 years. Its regime has murdered thousands of American citizens. Its slogan ‘death to America’ was not window dressing but core ideology," he went on to point out.

New Jersey Democrat praises Trump's efforts to disarm Iran

Fox News noted that Metzl is not the only Democrat to praise Trump for his decision to go after Iran, as New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer did so as well.

"The destruction of Iran’s nuclear program is essential to ultimate peace in the Middle East," the congressman was quoted as saying in a statement.

"This is not a Democratic or Republican issue — dealing with the Iranian threat is central to America’s national security," he declared.

"The world is safer because of the actions of our brave service members," insisted before adding that he is "praying for the safety of our service members in the region."

Sen. John Fetterman: Bombing Iran was "the correct move"

Meanwhile, Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman also came to the president's defense on Sunday in a statement of his own.

"As I’ve long maintained, this was the correct move by [President Trump]," the lawmaker asserted in a social media post.

"Iran is the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism and cannot have nuclear capabilities. I’m grateful for and salute the finest military in the world," he asserted.
