Former Democratic fundraiser and influencer Lindy Li now fundraising for Trump's inauguration
While relatively rare, it is not unheard of for highly political people to sometimes become so disillusioned with their chosen "team" that they switch sides to join their former opponents.
That appears to be the case with Lindy Li, a former high-profile Democratic influencer and fundraiser who is now backing and raising funds for President-elect Donald Trump's inaugural committee, the Washington Examiner reported.
Li, who was initially all-in with her support for President Joe Biden and then Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2024 campaign season, suddenly changed her tune and became a sharp critic of Biden, Harris, and the Democratic Party after the stunning results of Election Day.
Excommunicated from the Democratic "cult"
In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, Li, an immigrant from China whose family escaped communism, shared how the shift in her partisan allegiance has "been one of the most painful and rewarding moments of my life."
Once considered one of the Democratic Party's top influencers during the campaign, Li was an outspoken defender of President Biden and VP Harris and a loud critic of President-elect Trump and Republicans on TV who was rewarded for her strong display of loyalty with credentials and a role at the Democratic National Convention.
Yet, following the shock of the Democrats' losses on Election Day, Li began to speak out about how the party apparatus had been "lying" to her and others about Biden and Harris and their chances of victory, and further decried the party's "indoctrination" and "cult"-like feel, where anyone who steps out of line is mercilessly attacked and excommunicated.
"All I did is tell the truth -- literally that’s all I did, all I did is tell it like it was," she recalled, and for that, she was deluged with racist and sexist remarks and accusations that she was a Chinese spy, of which she told the outlet, "The Chinese communist party killed my great grandfather and that’s why we left the country, like give me a f--king break ... for someone to say something that heinous it just shows that the racism of the Democratic Party was there all along."
Democratic negativity vs. GOP positivity
Now, after having switched her allegiance from Democrats to Republicans, Li said the way she's been treated by the people in those parties has been "night and day," as she's been welcomed with open arms by the GOP and Trump supporters in contrast to how she "fought tooth and nail" to gain recognition from Democrats, per the Daily Mail.
"They’d rather destroy the critics rather than than accept that the party might have done something wrong, it’s more convenient to blame me," Li said of the party and her supposed Democratic friends. "My real friends are all supportive, but my political friends, it’s just been really bad. It’s a cult. The way that they’ve treated me is difficult."
Meanwhile, Li said of her new Republican friends, "They are so much more human with me," and further explained, "With the DNC it was so mercenary it felt that everyone had dollar signs in their eyes, they treated me like a wallet, it was just so disgusting and gross."
Now a member of Trump's inauguration fundraising committee
According to Fox News, Li recently revealed that in addition to being open about her switch to support President-elect Trump, she has also been quietly recruiting some of the Democratic donors she used to raise funds from to similarly shift their allegiance and make financial contributions to Trump's upcoming Inauguration.
She also shared how she was appointed as a member of Trump's inaugural fundraising committee and has witnessed an "overwhelmingly positive" response from "Democratic donors" who are "still so eager and willing to come to the table" with funds in support of Trump.
Li said of the donors that their "enthusiasm is just through the stratosphere" and, for the first time ever, she has been unable to guarantee those donors spots at various VIP events in spite of their large contributions, given how many people are vying for the limited number of available seats.
"The demand has just been unprecedented," she added. "Honestly, Biden and Harris never had this issue. They never had to turn people away."
