Former Ghanese soccer star Robert Eshun dies suddenly

Ghanese soccer fans were shocked this week to learn that former champion player Robert Eshun died suddenly.  

According to Pulse, passed away at the age of 48 after suffering a cardiac arrest as he was driving to his job in London on Monday.

Tributes to Eshun appear online

Pulse described Eshun as having been "a fan favorite" during his time as a soccer star with the Ghana Premier League in the late 1980s and early 2000s.

Tributes to Eshun quickly appeared on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, including from the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, for whom he once played.

The club said it was "saddened by the news of the passing of our 1990 FA CUP winner, 1990 CAF Champions League semifinalist and ex Black Stars [skillful] winger ,Robert Eshun."

Player known by the nickname "Ebo Electric"

Asante Kotoko News is a social media account devoted to following the team and it also took note of Eshun's death, writing, "Our condolences and best wishes are with his loved ones. RIP Robert Eshun!"

Fans spoke up about Eshun's unexpected passing as well, with one fondly recalling the veteran athlete's nickname, "Ebo Electric."

Former Ghanese sports minister dies

Meanwhile, Pules pointed out that Eshun was not the only figure connected with Ghanese sports to lose his life in recent days as the country's former Minister of Youth and Sports Enoch Teye (E.T.) Mensah died this past weekend.

The website explained that Mensah passed away at the age 77 while he was undergoing medical treatment in South Africa.
