It has been suggested by a former assistant to the Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, that the current President, Joe Biden, should step down so that she might become the 47th President of the United States.

The aide, Jama Simmons, who had previously served as Harris' Communications Director, stated this in a serious manner, despite the fact that it may sound like a joke. Simmons made this statement during a CNN conversation that was reported by the New York Post.

He stated that Biden had the ability to guarantee that Harris would become president, even if it was only for a few weeks. At that point, she would be the first woman to ever hold the presidency.

The Rational

Simmons stated that the decision will also spare Harris the humiliation of certifying her own defeat, which would have been a potential fallout.

In addition to taking on the role of President of the Senate, the Vice President of the United States is also responsible for presiding over the certification of election results on January 6.

In the same way that Mike Pence presided over the certification the last time after the 2020 election, when President-elect Donald Trump's fans made it into the United States Capitol in order to voice concerns about a potentially fraudulent election, Harris would preside over the certification this time as well.

Simmons stated that Biden "could resign the presidency in the next 30 days, make Kamala Harris the President of the United States."

Simmons Comments

Simmons was responding to a question on CNN's show "State of the Union" about the most important agenda for the remainder of Biden's term.

The majority of the guests said that the most important agenda should be the return of hostages held by Hamas and the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and that these should be the priorities.

“Joe Biden has been a phenomenal president. He’s lived up to so many of the promises he’s made. There’s one promise left that he can fulfill: being a transitional figure,” said Simmons, as per USA Today.

Simmons went on to say that this would spare Harris the embarrassment of having to face "her own defeat" when the Senate certifies the election results and that "it would dominate the news at a point where Democrats have to learn" to keep the public's interest.

Change Operations

There was an opportunity "to change the entire perspective of how Democrats operate," Simmons continued.

“This is something that’s in Joe Biden’s control. It would fulfill his promise (to be a transitional president). It would give Kamala Harris the chance to be the 47th president of the United States of America,” said Simmons.

He went on to say that it would also cause Trump's plans to be derailed since he would be required to place orders for new products and mark himself as the 48th president.
