Former Washington head judge warns of 'authoritarian' threat because of 'big lies'

The judge who formerly oversaw the Washington court where former President Donald Trump will be tried for election interference on January 6, 2021 gave a rare speech Tuesday in which she claimed that the country faces an "authoritarian threat."

Judge Beryl Howell, an Obama appointee, said that many January 6 participants who entered the Capitol on that day to "interfere" with the election certification believed "big lies" and that when people don't know what the facts are anymore, it invites authoritarianism.

“My D.C. judicial colleagues and I regularly see the impact of big lies at the sentencing of hundreds, hundreds of individuals who have been convicted for offense conduct on Jan. 6, 2021, when they disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election at the U.S. Capitol,” Howell said at the annual gala of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association.

“We are having a very surprising and downright troubling moment in this country when the very importance of facts is dismissed, or ignored,” Howell added. “That’s very risky business for all of us in our democracy. ... The facts matter.”

Selective facts

Howell didn't name Trump as the source of that authoritarianism, but it's clear that's where her rhetoric was aimed.

Her argument is a typical liberal one, but it is false and here's why: the "facts" she wants to reference do not represent the whole truth about the situation.

The people who entered the Capitol on January 6 may have thought that there was outright cheating in the election in the form of tampered-with voting machines and suitcases of ballots that were added to the official count fraudulently in certain locations.

These allegations were not able to be proven, but here are some more facts that the left refuses to consider.

Omitting key facts

The Hunter Biden laptop was a fact. It's also a fact that social media censored reports about it because Democrat power brokers asked them to.

Here's another fact: enough people said if they had heard about the laptop, they would have voted for former President Donald Trump that Trump would have easily won the election.

These are all facts the Democrats want to ignore, but they are nonetheless facts.

Democrats need to acknowledge that they are more of a threat toward authoritarianism than Republicans. They do everything they can to twist facts to benefit their candidates, and then they turn around and accuse Trump and Republicans of authoritarianism.

They gave her an award?

Howell got an award on Tuesday, but she and her fellow Democrats don't deserve accolades for the way they have demonized their opponents and called it defending democracy.

Their self-righteousness is a bad look that many people see right through in this day and age.
