Seven people were shot dead in Chicago this weekend, including four teenagers, and dozens were injured as the city reels from another bloody summer of street violence.

A 14-year-old was shot in the head and chest before 7 p.m. Saturday night outside a South Side home. Rajohn Harshaw was preparing to start freshman year at Hyde Park high school.

Hours earlier, Ashuntice Wilburn, 17, was shot dead in Galewood Park on the West Side around 4 p.m. A 16-year-old boy was shot in the leg and survived.

"With great sadness, we are devastated to learn about the loss of these young people. The thoughts and condolences of the entire Chicago Public Schools (CPS) family are with all those impacted by these tragic deaths," Chicago Public Schools said.

Two more teens were murdered hours apart Friday night.

An 18-year-old was shot dead while riding in a car in West Garfield Park on the West Side before 10 p.m.

Hours earlier, 16-year-old Khaaliq Williams was gunned down in Garfield Ridge while standing on the sidewalk around 8 p.m.

Four teenagers were injured in a mass shooting at a party in North Lawndale Friday night. The suspects walked up and started firing shots into a large crowd in the 3500 block of West 13th Place.

A 34-year-old man was shot dead early Saturday in a drive-by shooting in the Washington Heights neighborhood on the South Side.

A 24-year-old man was shot to death in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning while he was resting at a stop light in the River North neighborhood.

A man between 30 and 40 years old was killed around 11 p.m. Sunday in the 3500 block of West Congress Parkway.

Youths take over

Despite crime being the top issue for residents, the city elected a far-left, anti-police mayor, Brandon Johnson, in its municipal elections this year.

Johnson has all but yielded the city's downtown to criminals - refusing to use the word "mob" to describe violent youths who have terrorized residents with episodes of rioting and looting.

The mayor scolded a reporter after a "teen takeover" that led to 40 arrests.

“We’re not talking about mob actions. I didn’t say that,” Johnson scolded. “These large gatherings … it’s important that we speak of these dynamics in an appropriate way.”

With the city's leaders out to lunch, community groups have turned to pleading with criminals to desist from shooting during the daytime hours.
