President-elect Donald Trump was finally sentenced on Friday following his conviction last year in New York for felony falsification of business records, and though he was released with an unconditional discharge, Trump and his attorneys vowed to swiftly appeal the underlying conviction.

According to Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett, "This case will not stand up on appeal. It'll get tossed out, the conviction reversed."

Trump himself, meanwhile, decried the entire "witch hunt" against him as an "embarrassment" for New York and called out the judge and prosecutors for the roles they played in the overtly partisan but unsuccessful lawfare that was intended to derail his re-election efforts.

Hearing was an "Orwellian theater of the absurd"

During an interview on "Hannity," Jarrett predicted that President-elect Trump would prevail on appeal and have his conviction overturned as he described the sentencing hearing as an "Orwellian theater of the absurd" in which the judge and prosecutors treated the incoming president as though he was a hardened career criminal and dangerous repeat offender.

He said the prosecutors "abused the law, they distorted statutes, they shredded Trump's due process rights" and committed "the most abominable and oppressive acts of lawless abuse" that he'd seen in his legal career.

Jarrett further suggested that the judge and prosecutors may have committed federal crimes of their own in their zeal to get Trump, namely "conspiracy against rights" and "deprivation of rights under color of law," and said that it was "imperative" that Trump's incoming Justice Department conduct a "comprehensive investigation" of the entirety of the proceedings.

Trump called out judge and prosecutors during hearing

Fox News reported separately that President-elect Trump said during the sentencing hearing, which he attended virtually, "This has been a very terrible experience," and that "I think it's been a tremendous setback for New York and the New York court system."

He noted reports of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's initial reluctance to pursue the case that was, "from what I read and from what I hear, inappropriately handled before he got there. And a gentleman from a law firm came in and acted as a district attorney. And that gentleman, from what I heard, was a criminal or almost criminal in what he did. It was very inappropriate. It was somebody involved with my political opponent."

"I think it's an embarrassment to New York and New York has a lot of problems, but this is a great embarrassment," Trump asserted.

As Jarrett referenced in his analysis on "Hannity," Trump added directly to Judge Merchan, "It's been a political witch hunt," and further explained, "It was done to damage my reputation so that I'd lose the election. And obviously, that didn't work. And the people of our country got to see this firsthand because they watched the case in your courtroom. They got to see this firsthand. And then they voted, and I won."

Trump lashes out on social media

President-elect Trump was not done there, though, as he also took to Truth Social on Friday and wrote of the sentencing hearing, in which he dodged any jail time, probation, or fines, but remains a convicted felon, "The Radical Democrats have lost another pathetic, unAmerican Witch Hunt."

"After spending tens of millions of dollars, wasting over 6 years of obsessive work that should have been spent on protecting New Yorkers from violent, rampant crime that is destroying the City and State, coordinating with the Biden/Harris Department of Injustice in lawless Weaponization, and bringing completely baseless, illegal, and fake charges against your 45th and 47th President, ME, I was given an UNCONDITIONAL DISCHARGE," he continued. "That result alone proves that, as all Legal Scholars and Experts have said, THERE IS NO CASE, THERE WAS NEVER A CASE, and this whole Scam fully deserves to be DISMISSED.

"The real Jury, the American People, have spoken, by Re-Electing me with an overwhelming MANDATE in one of the most consequential Elections in History," Trump said. "As the American People have seen, this 'case' had no crime, no damages, no proof, no facts, no Law, only a highly conflicted Judge, a star witness who is a disbarred, disgraced, serial perjurer, and criminal Election Interference."

He added, "Today’s event was a despicable charade, and now that it is over, we will appeal this Hoax, which has no merit, and restore the trust of Americans in our once great System of Justice. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
