Model Gigi Hadid and her friend Leah Nicole McCarthy were arrested last week for trying to bring marijuana and smoking supplies into the Cayman Islands after arriving on a private jet to spend time there.

The 28-year-old and her friend faced charges of “suspicion of Importation of Ganja and Importation of Utensils used for the consumption of ganja,” but they were able to plead guilty, pay a fine, and avoid any record of the incident.

“The quantities were relatively small and were seemingly for personal consumption,” Cayman Marl Road reported.

Hadid had a medical use card for her drugs, which are supposed to be legal on Grand Cayman for medical use.

Record remains clear

“Gigi was traveling with marijuana purchased legally in NYC with a medical license,” Hadid’s representative said, according to a report by Daily Mail.

“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017,” the representative added. “Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”

Other than for medical use, marijuana is illegal in the Cayman Islands, and it is illegal to transport it across the border even in areas of the islands where its use is legal.

Hadid apparently didn't let a little arrest spoil her time on the islands. She posted a photo of herself in a bikini on social media, captioned, "mornin'."

Another post she captioned, "All's well that ends well."

A different experience

It was a much different outcome than the saga of Brittney Griner, who spent months in a Russian jail after she was caught bringing vaping supplies containing illegal drugs into the country while traveling there.

Griner was finally released as part of a prisoner exchange that released a brutal murderer back to Russia, where he is now reportedly running for office.

She was appreciative of the efforts to release her and said she now appreciates the freedoms she has in America more than she did before.

Hadid has a daughter, Khai, with ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik, who was born in 2020 before the couple split. There was no sign of her daughter on the trip.
