Mayor Francis Suarez is going to stay just that for now.

He's definitely not becoming President Francis Suarez in 2024.

He just dropped out.

In a move that surprised many people, mostly because they didn't know he had declared in the first place, Miami, Florida, Mayor Francis Suarez has officially dropped out of the GOP presidential primary.

It didn't last long.

He had just announced his candidacy three months ago.

It was clear to Suarez that he wasn't going to win though.

Instead of fighting for a meaningless second place, he made the decision to save money and regroup.

"While I have decided to suspend my campaign for President, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains," Suarez said. "I look forward to keeping in touch with the other Republican presidential candidates and doing what I can to make sure our party puts forward a strong nominee who can inspire and unify the country, renew Americans’ trust in our institutions and in each other, and win."

"Running for President of the United States has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Throughout this process, I have met so many freedom-loving Americans who care deeply about our nation, her people, and its future. It was a privilege to come so close to appearing on stage with the other candidates at last week’s first debate."

How did he stand out?

Suarez had been hoping to stand out from other conservatives by trumpeting how important it was going to be for America to address climate change.

This, among other reasons, may have been why Republican voters weren't ready for him.

"Climate change is not a distant threat for Miami; it's a daily presence in people's lives. The city has been fighting to stay above water for decades. It knows that its future as a vibrant international hub for business, tourism, arts and culture depends on making the city more resilient to the impact of global warming," Suarez had said.
