GOP forces Oregon Democrats to back down on bill permitting abortion at any age
Republican lawmakers in Oregon scored a major win last week when they forced Democrats to eliminate a proposal that would allow girls to get an abortion at any age without parental consent.
According to Breitbart, Democrats amended HB 2002 and agreed to concessions on other bills after Republicans staged a six-week-long walkout from the state legislature.
GOP leader boasts of win for "parental rights and the rule of law"
Senate Minority Leader Tim Knopp issued a statement last Thursday in which he boasted that "Senate Republicans and Independents stood firm as the last line of defense for parental rights and the rule of law."
"I am incredibly proud of their steadfast determination to give their constituents a long over-due seat at the table," Knopp stressed.
"We have said from the very beginning that we cannot allow the Senate to operate in an unlawful, uncompromising, and unconstitutional manner," the Republican lawmaker continued.
"We repeatedly urged Democrat leaders to put the critical needs of all Oregonians first instead of prioritizing an extreme agenda that does nothing but divide us," Knopp declared.
Bill expands types of "gender affirming care" that insurers must cover
"I am pleased to say that we were able to hold the Democrat Majority accountable and accomplish all these things," said before adding, "We achieved constitutional, lawful bipartisanship. And parental right were restored."

State Sen. Lynn Findley issued a statement of her own, saying, "Though Democrats hold a slim majority, it is critically important that the voices of all Oregonians are heard in this process."
Breitbart pointed out that other controversial provisions of HB 2002 remain intact. These include expanding the types of so-called "gender affirming care" that insurance providers must cover.
Abortion used to cover up child sex abuse
HB 2002's radical nature came to public attention after a nonpartisan attorney for the Oregon Legislature explained that bill permits children of any age to make "reproductive health care decisions."

Easy access to abortion for minors has been used by child sexual predators to conceal the evidence of the crimes, a fact which was demonstrated by a 2015 lawsuit against Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains.
The Washington Times reported that Timothy David Smith took his 13-year-old victim for an abortion after he impregnated, thus allowing his abuse to continue undetected.
