GOP Senator predicts big Republican victory in 2024 election
U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) believes that Republicans may just walk away from the 2024 general election with solid control of the U.S. Senate.
This, of course, would be a reversal of the current situation, in which the Democrats have a very narrow majority in the upper chamber.
Tuberville discussed the situation, according to Breitbart News, during a recent appearance on Mobile, AL radio FM Talk 106.5’s The Jeff Poor Show.
There, he suggested that the Senate is about to flip, big-time.
55?
During his radio appearance, Tuberville suggested that the Republicans could walk away from the 2024 election with as many as 55 U.S. Senate seats.
He said:
Yeah, it looks good in the Senate. I’ll spend the next two days - I’m going to go to the [Auburn-]Vanderbilt game tomorrow. And then I get on a plane and fly to Ohio and spend three days with Tucker Carlson and Bernie Marino, who’s a senator up there in Ohio, trying to get him across the line. I think he’s going to win. He’s two points up, beating Sherrod Brown, who’s been up there for God knows forever, who’s useless. And so we’re going to do that.
Tuberville continued with some speculation about how things might go in the election.
He said:
But if the vote was the day, and it was something that we could count on being correct, we will at least, at least in the Senate, get majority. We’ll be 51-49. Now, I think that we got a great chance of getting 53, 54, possibly even 55 because you really, I think people out there are starting to look at this going, ‘Hey, wait a minute, you know, I can’t keep voting the way I’ve been voting on the Democratic side. I’ve got to, I’ve got to switch over, and we got to get new leadership in Washington, D.C.’ So I think it’s going to be good.
The polls would seem to agree.
The numbers
Whether or not polls are accurate is a legitimate point of debate. But, at the moment, they do suggest that Republicans are going to win the Senate.
FiveThirtyEight's election simulator, for example, has Republicans winning 90 out of 100 times.
The outlet writes:
Democrats, as we wrote Wednesday, will have a hard time keeping their majority in the U.S. Senate. But since we launched our Senate forecast, the party’s chances have worsened slightly.
Currently, Real Clear Politics says there are only 7 toss-ups in the Senate.
So, all signs are pointing to a Republican Senate majority following the 2024 elections.
