Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman came under fire from some within his own party this month amid suggestions that he is mentally unfit to hold office.

However, one Republican lawmaker recently came to Fetterman's defense by blowing the whistle on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Senator says minority leader "is a drooling moron compared to John Fetterman"

According to the Daily Caller, that attack was launched earlier this week by Ohio Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno, who was elected to his first term this past November.

"Chuck Schumer is a drooling moron compared to John Fetterman," Moreno was quoted as telling The New York Times. Moreno went on to say that Fetterman is a "really, really cool dude."

However, Schumer apparently has bigger problems to worry about than Moreno, as a new poll suggests that he faces far more danger from someone within his own party.

Recent survey finds that Schumer is set to lose in a primary race against AOC

As the New York Post reported, the survey was carried out between May 15 and May 18 by the Honan Strategy Group on behalf of the Jewish Voters Action Network.

It found that New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez appears well positioned to defeat Schumer in a primary contest next year.

The poll showed that just 33% of New York Democratic primary voters are prepared to back Schumer whereas 54% say they would cast a vote for Ocasio-Cortez. Another 12% remain undecided.

It also found that Schumer is losing among Jewish Democrats, who are an important demographic in New York state. The survey had Schumer winning 38% of Jewish primary voters to Ocasio-Cortez's 45%.

April poll found that only 39% of New York voters see Schumer positively

Those results came on the heels of another discouraging poll which was conducted between April 14 and April 15 by Siena College.

As Fox News noted, the survey showed that 49% of New York state voters have an unfavorable view of Schumer while just 39% see him in a favorable light.

"While he continues to be viewed unfavorably by more than two-thirds of Republicans and a majority of independents, Schumer saw his standing with Democrats, particularly liberals, fall dramatically," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg told the cable news network.

"Democrats view Schumer favorably 52-38%, down from 68-23%, and he’s still viewed favorably by a plurality of liberals, 47-41%, but that’s down from 68-21%," the polling expert went on to add.
