Greg Abbott responds to 'hypocrite' Biden's outrage over 'cruel' immigrant drop-off

Texas governor Greg Abbott isn't letting President Biden have the last word after the "hypocrite in chief" denounced the treatment of immigrants who were dropped off in Washington, D.C. on a freezing Christmas Eve as "cruel, dangerous, and shameful."

In a blistering statement, Abbott noted why the immigrants were there in the first place: Biden's refusal to take ownership of a self-inflicted humanitarian crisis.

Biden explodes with anger

Three buses of immigrants arrived in D.C. on Christmas Eve, stopping nearby Kamala Harris' official residence at the Naval Observatory in subzero temperatures.

The incident prompted an explosion of rage among Democrats, who quickly seized the opportunity to bash Abbott and Christian conservatives generally as cruel and hypocritical.

Biden led the way, accusing Abbott of having "abandoned children."

"Governor Abbott abandoned children on the side of the road in below-freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve without coordinating with any federal or local authorities,” the White House said. “This was a cruel, dangerous and shameful stunt," the White House said.

Abbott pushes back

Abbott spokeswoman Renae Eze said the immigrants had traveled voluntarily, despite efforts by Democrats to characterize them as having been deceived.

Instead of lecturing states like Texas, Biden and his absent "border czar" Kamala Harris must do their duty and secure the border, Eze added.

"Instead of their hypocritical complaints about Texas providing much-needed relief to our overrun and overwhelmed border communities, President Biden and Border Czar Harris need to step up and do their jobs to secure the border—something they continue failing to do," she added.

Eze pointed to the border city of El Paso, which was forced to declare an emergency as it struggles to cope with an influx of immigrants who have been unceremoniously "dumped" by the Biden administration.

"They were processed and released by the federal government, who are dumping them at historic levels in Texas border towns like El Paso, which recently declared a state of emergency because of the Biden-made crisis."

Who's to blame?

Biden and his allies have attacked Abbott for months for bussing immigrants to self-described "sanctuary cities," but Abbott has defended the tactic, saying it spreads the burden of a crisis that Biden has failed to address.

The president has refused to even acknowledge the border crisis exists, falsely insisting the border is "secure" despite an unprecedented surge that many fear will overwhelm the system.

Some relief arrived Tuesday when the Supreme Court indefinitely maintained the Trump-era Title 42 policy, rebuffing a request from Biden to end it.
