As part of his ongoing trolling of liberal Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, President-elect Donald Trump recently suggested on his Truth Social account that NHL legend and Canadian national hero Wayne Gretzky should run to replace him in office.

The famed hockey star has not yet responded to the suggestion, but his wife Janet appears to have reacted positively as she shared Trump's post along with a famous quote from her husband on her own social media, Fox News reported.

This development comes as Trump has repeatedly dogged ideological rival Trudeau since he was re-elected in November and joked that Canada should be annexed to become the 51st member of the United States, with Trudeau staying on as the "governor" instead of prime minister.

Wayne Gretzky for Canadian prime minister?

In a Truth Social post on Christmas Day, President-elect Trump wrote, "I just left Wayne Gretzky, 'The Great One' as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, 'Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada -- You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign.'"

"He had no interest, but I think the people of Canada should start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement. It would be so much fun to watch!" he added.

It does not appear that Gretzky himself has publicly responded to Trump's post, but it looks like his wife Janey did, though it isn't entirely clear if she was truly supportive of the idea or just playing along with the joke.

She posted to her Instagram account a photo of a hockey player slapping the puck with a quote from her husband superimposed over the picture that read: "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take."

In the comment section of that post, Janet included a link to Trump's post about Gretzky running to be Canada's next prime minister.

Gretzky a Conservative, friendly with Trump

Newsmax reported that Wayne Gretzky has previously let it be known that he leans to the right politically as he has previously endorsed Canada's Conservative Party and openly supported former Conservative Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Gretzky has also been friendly with President-elect Trump in the past and was seen hanging out with his wife and children at the former and future president's Mar-a-Lago resort in November after Trump's successful re-election to a second term.

His support for the U.S. president-elect was also unmistakable, as he was spotted wearing one of Trump's red "Make America Great Again" hats during the visit.

Some Canadians likely support the idea, others think the joke has gone "too far"

Canada's National Post also reported on the Gretzky for prime minister posts from President-elect and Janey Gretzky and noted that some commenters on her post appeared to be supportive of the idea and confident that the legendary hockey star would be victorious if he decided to run.

To be sure, PM Trudeau and his liberal supporters are less than pleased with Trump's trolling of their leader and his running gag about Canada becoming the 51st state, which some now suggest has gone "too far."

Yet, as both Fox News and Newsmax highlighted, Trudeau has become decidedly unpopular with the Canadian people and he is facing mounting demands to resign or be replaced in the next election.
