Harris's 'allies' position her to take Biden's place in 2024 election: report

A new report from Politico reveals how Vice President Kamala Harris's "allies" are positioning her to take President Joe Biden's place on the Democratic Party's 2024 ticket, should Biden be forced to step aside.

This comes as Biden continues to face significant calls - from top-ranking members of his own Democratic Party - to withdraw his reelection bid.

This week, reports indicated that some of the biggest names in the Democratic Party - from U.S. House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to former President Barack Obama - have joined in the calls for Biden to step aside.

Biden, however, is still refusing to do so.

Waiting to pounce

Politico, in its report, describes how Harris' allies are essentially working behind the scenes to ensure that if and when Biden does step aside Harris takes over.

The outlet reports:

Allies of Kamala Harris are engaged in a delicate, behind-the-scenes effort to make sure the vice president moves to the top of the ticket if President Joe Biden steps aside, according to five people involved in the project or with knowledge of the discussions.

Politico goes on to describe the "informal campaign" as "complicated," and one of the reasons why it is "complicated" is because Harris' allies are well aware of the fact that Democratic leaders doubt "her ability to win the president against former President Donald Trump."

The outlet notes that Harris' allies are "not trying to push Biden aside." Rather, Political writes that they are "activating an army to be ready to defend the person who they believe should be the new presidential nominee [that is, Harris]."

The effort, according to the outlet, is being led by " former Harris staffers, members of the Congressional Black Caucus, civil rights leaders, and long-standing allies of the vice president."

It's going to be an uphill battle, to say the least

One of the reasons why we are still talking about Biden being replaced rather than Biden actually being replaced is because there is no obvious replacement for Biden.

In these types of situations, one would automatically look to Biden's number two, namely, Harris. But, as mentioned above, there are serious questions about Harris's electability.

The reader will likely remember that Harris' attempt, in 2020, to become the Democrats' presidential nominee was a massive failure. She was then chosen by Biden to be his running mate. It was clear that Democratic leaders were hoping that, by placing her with Biden, Americans would warm up to Harris, but it has not happened.

Instead, Harris remains one of the least popular vice presidents in history, and the polls would also indicate that she really would not stand a chance against Trump in the 2024 election.

For these reasons, it is hard to imagine the Democratic Party replacing Biden with Harris, but it is still within the realm of possibility.
