'He should be ashamed of himself': Pirro blasts Pritzker after almost 60 shot in Chicago over holiday weekend

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro blasted Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) on Tuesday morning after nearly 60 people were shot, 9 fatally, in Chicago during the Labor Day weekend.

“This guy Pritzker, he should be ashamed of himself,” Pirro said on “America Reports,” referring to the staggering number of shootings and fatalities.

“It is a rejection of your oath to protect the people.”

Pirro's comments came as Pritzker and other state and local officials take steps to prevent President Donald Trump from expanding his crime crackdown from Washington, D.C. to other similarly crime-ridden, Democrat-run cities.

Worse than ever

The violence in Chicago over the holiday weekend was worse than in 2024, when 20 were shot, seven fatally.

Trump is said to be planning a federal takeover of the city's law enforcement similar to what he did in Chicago, which involved mobilizing National Guard troops, ICE and FBI agents, and other federal resources to the city.

He and his top officials are touting their success in Washington, D.C., calling it a "crime-free zone" after the crackdown.

The resistance

But Chicago's Mayor Brandon Johnson announced an executive order on Saturday meant to resist the federal takeover.

Johnson ordered his officers not to cooperate with ICE and tried to get agents to refrain from wearing masks (which they are doing to avoid being targeted for violence by civilians).

He ordered that no military be used to assist law enforcement in the city, but it's not clear whether he has the authority to enforce these orders.

"No emergency"

For his part, Pritzker said he would fight Trump in court to prevent him from doing in Chicago what he did in D.C.

“There is no emergency that warrants deployment of troops,” Pritzker said. “He is insulting the people of Chicago by calling our home a hellhole, and anyone who takes his word at face value is insulting Chicagoans, too.”

It's actually fantastic that Trump has caused Democrats to come out against reducing violent crime.

At first, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) was every bit as resistant to the crackdown, but now, she's singing its praises and voluntarily extending the effort. Maybe Pritzker will follow suit.
