Heritage Foundation lays out thorough case in support of impeaching Sec. Mayorkas

The conservative Heritage Foundation just laid out a thorough and compelling case in support of House Republican efforts to impeach Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas, Breitbart reported.

That case primarily includes charges that Mayorkas has violated his sworn oath of office, has abused his authority and power, and has betrayed the trust of Congress and the American people.

Here is why Mayorkas should be impeached

The lengthy case for impeachment of Sec. Mayorkas as laid out by the Heritage Foundation, which reads similar to a legal brief in a lawsuit, first detailed the constitutional authority and duty of Congress to impeach and remove civil officers who have committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" while in office.

The organization then painstakingly provided the factual and legal grounds on which an impeachment and removal of Mayorkas could be based, beginning with the clear violation of his oath of office by refusing to enforce numerous and specific duly passed and existing statutes, as well as court orders, on immigration and border security.

Mayorkas was also charged with having abused his power in such a way as to create and exacerbate the current border crisis and place in danger his own DHS employees and the American people.

The report further highlighted how Sec. Mayorkas has blatantly and repeatedly lied to and misled Congress and the American people with dishonest and disingenuous claims of a secured southern border.

"Disgraceful conduct warrants impeachment and removal"

"An executive branch official and civil officer of the United States who is entrusted by Congress with responsibility to secure the homeland and enforce the nation’s federal immigration laws and who, in every action he takes, ignores and abuses the law, as Secretary Mayorkas has done, is unfit to be the Secretary of Homeland Security," the Heritage report summarized.

"Secretary Mayorkas has been deaf to the voice of Americans, blind to the chaos and consequences of his policies and actions, and untruthful in his statements to Congress and the American people," it added. "It is time for a reckoning. His disgraceful conduct warrants impeachment and removal from office."

The organization concluded the report with a proposed resolution containing three articles of impeachment against the head of DHS that House Republicans could use to bolster and inform their own already ongoing efforts to try to impeach and remove Sec. Mayorkas from office.

House GOP have already filed impeachment articles

"It's all laid out here. My colleagues and I have a congressional responsibility to impeach Mayorkas. If we can't impeach him, then we can't impeach anybody," Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) tweeted on Monday with a link to the Heritage Foundation's report.

The Arizona congressman had already filed a single article of impeachment against Sec. Mayorkas earlier this month charging the top DHS official with having "engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with his duties as an Officer of the United States."

Articles of impeachment against Sec. Mayorkas had also been filed last month by Rep. Pat Fallon (R-TX) that accused the secretary of violating his oath of office, lying to Congress, and maliciously slandering his own Border Patrol employees.

Removal unlikely, but impeachment still worthwhile

Also weighing in with support for the House Republican effort to impeach Sec. Mayorkas is the Federation for American Immigration Reform, though it nonetheless noted the disappointing reality of the unlikelihood that the DHS chief would actually be removed from office by the Democrat-led Senate that would conduct an impeachment trial.

That said, the likely unsuccessful effort to oust Mayorkas from office is "nevertheless an important tool to increase pressure on a lawless administration."
