Hillary Clinton says cease-fire would be 'gift' to Hamas

Former Secretary of State and twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D) said Thursday at a gala event that those on the left pushing for a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas were in error.

“People who are calling for a cease-fire now do not understand Hamas. That is not possible,” Clinton said in a conversation with Norah O'Donnell at the Rice University Baker Institute for Public Policy’s 30th-anniversary gala.

“It would be such a gift to Hamas because they would spend whatever time there was a cease-fire in effect rebuilding their armaments, creating stronger positions to be able to fend off an eventual assault by the Israelis,” she emphasized.

Israel's efforts to avoid civilian casualties

She did add that Israel has a responsibility to limit civilian casualties as much as possible.

This is obvious and really does not need to be said, because Israel has been dropping leaflets and even calling people in Gaza to warn them before dropping bombs on military targets when civilians are in the area.

The pro-Israel comments show that Clinton and other Democrats have an understanding about the geo-politics of the Middle East that those supporting Hamas and Gaza don't.

It is unrealistic to expect Israel to quit in the middle of its offensive, which was launched to disable Hamas and prevent future attacks like the one that killed 1,400 Israelis and a few dozen Americans earlier in the month.

The brutality of Hamas

Pro-Hamas leftists are ignoring the brutality of the Hamas attack, during which 1,000 fighters entered Israel through a breached wall and paragliding over it, went from house to house, and raped women, abducted over 200 people as hostages, and killed civilians including children and babies.

Israel does not want to see a repeat of this brutal attack, and is engaged in making sure Hamas does not have the resources or infrastructure to do such a thing again.

Some of those leftists probably think Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza, killing 500, even though it was shown to be a Hamas rocket that did so, and that the bomb only hit the parking lot, and did not kill 500 people.

If they are listening to the likes of Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), they will still believe this because she never retracted it when the truth came out.

Israel is going to do what it must to keep itself safe.

There's no support for Israel anywhere else in the Middle East, so in this instance Clinton is right--it would hurt Israel's chances of a successful outcome to the fighting and future safety to do a cease-fire now.
