Hispanic Democrats push Biden on border talks

Hispanic Democrats want to meet with President Biden ASAP as Republicans push him to compromise on border security.

Republicans have said they will not support Biden's request for more billions in aid to Ukraine without commitments to tighten border security.

Biden made a comment last week that had progressives concerned. He said he would be open to "significant" compromises in order to unlock the Ukraine money.

"I am willing to make significant compromises on the border. We need to fix the broken border system, it is broken," he said.

Biden slammed from the left

Despite his virtual obsession with helping Ukraine, Biden has spent his entire presidency dismissing concerns of a crisis at the southern border.

Republicans charge Biden with prioritizing the needs of a foreign nation over America's own security.

Even Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), a fervent Russia hawk, has refused any further Ukraine aid without a stronger southern border.

Meanwhile, progressives are worried that Biden is ready to cave to border hawks on the right. Members of the Hispanic Congressional Caucus asked Biden for a meeting right away to discuss their concerns.

"We are deeply concerned that the President would consider advancing Trump-era immigration policies that Democrats fought so hard against – and that he himself campaigned against – in exchange for aid to our allies that Republicans already support," they said.

"Caving to demands for these permanent damaging policy changes as a ‘price to be paid’ for an unrelated one-time spending package would send a dangerous precedent."

A tale of two borders

These Democrats probably don't have much to worry about, as Biden has spent three years ignoring the border crisis with no issue.

On the other hand, Biden's rhetoric on Ukraine has bordered on the apocalyptic. Biden has warned that failing to continue supporting Ukraine will pave the road to a Russian victory and, potentially, World War III.

Biden tied Republicans to Russia during a meeting with Ukraine's president Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday.

"Russian loyalists in Moscow celebrated when Republicans voted to block Ukraine's aid last week," Biden said. "If you're being celebrated by Russian propagandists, it might be time to rethink what you are doing."

As Biden continues to divide the nation with inflammatory rhetoric, most Americans are more concerned with the crisis in their own backyard.
