Trump-hating Hollywood celeb Rob Reiner deletes his X account following Trump's re-election
Though President-elect Donald Trump's detractors and haters are legion, one of his more outspoken enemies has been Hollywood director Rob Reiner, who was a constant critic on social media and often hurled horrible accusations and sharp invective at Trump and his supporters.
Now, just a couple of weeks after Trump won re-election to a second term in the White House, it appears that Reiner has gone silent and deleted his once-highly active X account, according to Breitbart.
Prior reports from other sources suggest that the deletion of the account was part of a planned move by Reiner away from X and toward more left-leaning platforms, though the reports also indicated that the leftist celebrity is taking a hiatus of unspecified duration from all social media.
Reiner's X account deleted as he checked into a mental health facility
Breitbart noted on Thursday that attempts to look up Reiner's X account, which had as many as 2.3 million followers, or specific posts from him were met with a message that declared, "This account doesn't exist."
That development may have come as a surprise to some, as Reiner had previously been a prolific user of Twitter/X over the past several years to routinely and frequently attack former President Trump, his supporters, and Republicans generally while simultaneously boosting and cheering for Democrats and expressing his support for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
However, the Daily Wire reported last week that Reiner had announced his intention to flee X for the more friendly environment of one of the platform's liberal-leaning competitors, Bluesky -- a move that many Trump-hating celebrities and Democrats also made over the past few weeks.
Yet, it would appear that the move to Bluesky didn't pan out for Reiner as expected, as he soon complained the alternative platform already been taken over by "MAGA scum" and transformed into a "vile, racist, and evil" place.
As such, in a since-deleted post from a Bluesky account that also appears to no longer exist, Reiner revealed, "I have made the decision to take the next few days to check into a facility for peace and relaxation. No phones, social media, no trolls, just calmness to heal my pain."
Reiner left X for Bluesky last week
TheWrap reported last week that Reiner's decision to check himself into a mental health facility and engage in a "social media detox" was a shock to some, as just a week earlier he had been raving about Bluesky and its "less hateful experience" in comparison to X.
The outlet noted that in the immediate aftermath of Election Day, Reiner went silent on X for about two weeks but eventually re-emerged to post a final rant against President-elect Trump and his victory over VP Harris in what would turn out to be his final post on the hugely popular X platform.
"Now that America has elected a Convicted Felon with Authoritarian proclivities, I fear that Democracy’s return won’t be any time soon. The long term solutions are daunting," he wrote. "Democrats need to re-adopt the 50 state strategy. And most importantly, a competitive information distribution system must be built to combat the massive disinformation currently being fed to the American people."
Reiner not alone in fleeing X for alternative platforms
Both TheWrap and the Daily Wire reported that Reiner was far from alone in his decision to flee X in favor of other social media platforms, as numerous other prominent Trump-hating celebrities and Democratic users made similar moves to alternatives like Bluesky, which experienced a massive surge in new users following the election.
They have not found the "peace and relaxation" or an escape from politics they were searching for, though, and many continue to be miserable or enraged about the electoral reality of the country.
That suggests one of two things, both of which could be equally true -- either all social media platforms are toxic to a certain extent, or the problem lies with themselves and their refusal to accept the political will of half of their fellow Americans.
