Border Czar Homan notes 'Trump Effect' on record-low number of illegal migrant encounters at border
Following four years of open borders chaos under former President Joe Biden, one of President Donald Trump's top priorities was reestablishing complete border security and ending the flood of illegal aliens into the country.
In less than six months, Trump has scored a huge win in that regard, as Border Czar Tom Homan revealed that thanks to the "Trump effect," barely more than 6,000 illegal migrants were arrested for illicit border crossings in the entire month of June, according to Breitbart.
And notably, for the second month in a row, not a single one of those apprehended illegal aliens was subsequently released into the U.S., a dramatic reversal from the Biden years when the overwhelming majority of migrants encountered at the border were merely processed and released into the nation's interior.
The Trump Effect
In an X post on Tuesday, Border Czar Homan wrote, "THE TRUMP EFFECT -- Total Border Patrol encounters for the entire month of June 2025 was 6,070. That is less than a single day under Biden."
"As a matter of fact, the total number of encounters is less than half of a single day under Biden on many days," he continued. "Also, none of the 6,070 were released into the U.S. ZERO."
"President Trump has created the most secure border in the history of the nation and the data proves it. We have never seen numbers this low. Never," Homan said. "God bless the men and women of the US Border Patrol and God bless the men and women of ICE."
He added, "The interior arrests and consequences help to drive down illegal immigration. The TRUMP EFFECT keeps America winning."
White House cheers "extraordinary" border numbers
President Trump's White House on Wednesday heralded the "extraordinary" news shared by Border Czar Homan about the "record-setting low" number of border encounters that "underscores the effectiveness of President Donald J. Trump’s robust border enforcement policies and aggressive deportation measures."
"It’s a stark contrast to the Biden Administration, when approximately 10,000 unvetted migrants were illegally crossing the southern border every day at the peak of the invasion -- most of whom were released into the country with little or no oversight," the White House observed.
It was further noted that the number of nationwide illegal migrant encounters was the "lowest on record," that no illegal migrants were released into the interior for the second month in a row, and that a single-day record low of just 137 total encounters nationwide was achieved on June 28.
The White House also pointed out that the number of "gotaways" -- illegal aliens known to have crossed the border but evaded capture -- had fallen by 90% in comparison to June 2024, as well as that the 2025 Fiscal Year was on pace to have "the fewest illegal immigrant encounters in five decades."
"Now, Congress has a chance to fortify this progress by sending the One Big Beautiful Bill to President Trump’s desk -- which includes funding to finish the border wall, hire thousands of new border personnel, expand detention capabilities, and fund at least one million deportations per year," the White House added.
Massive changes from last year under Biden
It was just a couple of weeks earlier when U.S. Customs and Border Patrol released the official numbers for May and revealed massive decreases in the totals for apprehensions, encounters, and releases in comparison to the same month the year before, under the Biden administration.
"Under the leadership of this administration, CBP has received historic support resulting in another 93% decrease in illegal crossings along the southwest border this month when compared with last year," Acting CBP Commissioner Pete Flores said at the time. "Border numbers continue to trend at historic lows, reinforcing the sustained success of our enforcement efforts in securing the homeland and protecting American communities."
