House Democrat says he might not vote to certify a Trump election victory

Democrats have regularly portrayed former President Donald Trump as a threat to the country and blamed him for the January 6 riot on Capitol Hill over his refusal to concede four years ago.

Yet in a bombshell move, one prominent Democrat now says his party may end up disputing this year's election result.

Raskin suggests Trump may "steal" this year's vote

According to Breitbart, that declaration was made late last week by Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin during an appearance on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher."

"When I say we will support a free and fair election, no we're not going to allow them to steal it in the states, steal it with the Department of Justice or steal it with any other election official in the country," Raskin stated on Friday.

"If it's a free and fair election, we will do what we have always done — we will honor it," the Maryland congressman went on to add.

Raskin opposed certifying Trump's 2016 victory

While Maher responded that accepting election results has been part of the "Democrats' history," Breitbart contributor Joel B. Pollak noted how this is not the case.

Pollak recalled that in 2017, Raskin joined with other members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus to oppose certification of Trump's previous election victory.

That move won praise from The Nation, a left-wing magazine which published an article titled, "Courageous House Progressives Raise 'Justice and Fairness' Objections to Certifying Trump."

It observed how "[n]ewly elected Congressman Jamie Raskin, a constitutional law professor from Maryland, rose to question the process."

Maher calls out media for lying about Trump's remarks

Maher also made the news recently when he denounced mainstream media outlets for falsely suggesting that Trump had called for former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney to be executed.

That was in reference to a remark Trump made about wanting to see Cheney "with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her." He later explained that the former congresswoman doesn't have the "guts" to fight a war despite wanting others to die on her behalf.

"I woke up to the headline 'Donald Trump had called for a firing squad for Liz Cheney,' and this is what I really don’t like about the media — No, he didn’t," Breitbart quoted Maher as saying.

"Just to be clear," Maher stressed, "this is exactly what hippies always said. This is exactly what peaceniks always said. [Trump is saying], 'You know what, it's very easy to sit in your building and send young men to die.'"
