Earlier this month,  President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal over its claim that he once sent a birthday card to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Yet in a stunning move, Democratic members of Congress are now demanding to see Epstein's alleged "birthday book."

Letter sent to attorneys at New York law firms

According to Breitbart, that demand was laid out in a letter from California Democratic Reps. Ro Khanna and Robert Garcia, both of whom sit on the House Oversight Committee.

The letter was addressed to three lawyers working at separate New York City law firms who handled Epstein's estate following his death in federal custody.

"Recent public reporting indicates that the Estate of Jeffrey Epstein is in possession of a document commonly referred to as 'the birthday book,' compiled by Ghislaine Maxwell in 2003 in celebration of Mr. Epstein’s 50th birthday, which has clear relevance to this case," the letter read.

"Public reporting indicates that President Trump submitted a poem and drawing for the 'birthday book,' which contains messages and illustrations from wealthy and powerful friends and associates of Jeffrey Epstein,'" it continued.

Material "is relevant for ongoing congressional oversight"

"The Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has issued a subpoena to depose Ms. Maxwell, the book’s alleged creator, and should be permitted to review its contents," Khanna and Garcia's correspondence pointed out.

"The book is relevant for ongoing congressional oversight of the Department of Justice’s handling of the Epstein investigation and prosecution, as well as the Trump Administration’s decision to declassify and release only a handful of documents from its Epstein files while withholding others from the public," the letter stressed.

"Information gathered from this document may also inform the development of legislative reforms addressing sex trafficking networks, financial regulation, or other critical matters of public policy," it went on to add.

Trump files "powerhouse" lawsuit over "fake news" report

Reuters reported on July 18 that the president had filed a defamation lawsuit suit in a Miami federal court over the "overwhelming" financial and reputational harm he has suffered.

The suit names two Journal reporters along with Rupert Murdoch and his News Corp company, which publishes the newspaper.

"We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS 'article' in the useless 'rag' that is, The Wall Street Journal," Trump was quoted as saying in a post to his Truth Social platform.

"I hope Rupert and his 'friends' are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case," Trump declared.
