House passes bills cracking down on sanctuary cities, with some Democrat help

The U.S. House of Representatives just passed a pair of bills that look to crack down on so-called sanctuary cities.

Fox News reports that House Republicans even received some help from their Democratic counterparts to pass these measures.

The Trump administration is celebrating this as a win.

 The details

For one thing, the House has voted to pass a bill that will relocate the Small Business Administration (SBA).

Currently, some SBA offices are located in jurisdictions in the United States, that label themselves as "sanctuary cities." In other words, these are jurisdictions that look to provide shelter from the federal government for illegal immigrants.

The final vote on the legislation was 211 to 199, with five Democrats joining their Republican counterparts. Fox identifies these Democrats as U.S. Reps. "Henry Cuellar of Texas, Laura Gillen of New York, Don Davis of North Carolina, Jared Golden of Maine, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington."

The outlet adds, "That's despite House Democratic leaders urging lawmakers to vote against the bill."

Fox explains that the bill would require "SBA offices at the regional, district and local levels would be required to relocate if the administration publicly designated their locations as sanctuary jurisdictions."

"Committed to ending the illegal invasion"

This could be looked at as yet another way that President Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress are looking to put a stop to illegal immigration.

SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler released a statement, following the passage of the bills by the House, to this effect.

She said:

By harboring criminal illegal aliens, sanctuary cities jeopardize both the lives of American citizens and the livelihoods of our small businesses — which is exactly why the SBA is moving our field offices out of these lawless jurisdictions and into safer, more accessible communities that comply with federal law. This Administration is committed to ending the illegal invasion of our nation – and I am grateful for the bipartisan group of House lawmakers who voted in support of that agenda by passing the Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act of 2025.

Trump is leading a multi-pronged attack on sanctuary cities.

Just recently, his administration published a list identifying every sanctuary city in the country.
