House Republicans demand transcripts of Biden's interviews with special counsel
Special Counsel Robert Hur released a report last week in which he justified his conclusion that President Joe Biden should not be prosecuted for mishandling classified documents.
In a move that is sure to leave the White House scrambling, Republicans are asking to see transcripts of the interviews Biden had with Hur's office.
Letter sent to Merrick Garland
According to NBC News, that demand was put forward in a letter sent by the heads of the House Ways and Means, Judiciary and Oversight Committees to Attorney General Merrick Garland on Monday.

"Throughout Mr. Hur’s report, there is reference to a transcript of an interview conducted with President Biden on October 8 and October 9, 2023," the letter stated.
"The Committees require this transcript and any other records of this interview, including, but not limited to, any recordings, notes, or summaries of the interview," it added.
House Republicans want Hur to testify on Capitol Hill
What's more, the Republican-led committees also want to see any documents pertaining to Hur’s interview with Biden's ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer.
The letter explained that such information is needed as the committees "are investigating whether sufficient grounds exist to draft articles of impeachment against President Biden for consideration by the full House."
"Since the beginning of the 118th Congress — and, subsequently, in furtherance of the impeachment inquiry as detailed in a memorandum released by the three Committees — the Oversight Committee has investigated President Biden’s mishandling of classified materials," the letter explained.
NBC News also noted that House Republicans are seeking to have Hur come to Capitol Hill and about his investigation of Biden.
Biden mixed up presidents of Egypt and Mexico at press conference
As Fox News reported, Hur pointed to the president's compromised mental state when explaining why he decided not to pursue criminal charges.
"In his interview with our office, Mr. Biden's memory was worse. He did not remember, even within several years, when his son Beau died," Hur wrote.
"And his memory appeared hazy when describing the Afghanistan debate that was once so important to him," the special counsel went on to add.
While Biden held a press conference in which he attempted to rebut Hur's allegations, his efforts were undermined when he mixed up the presidents of Egypt and Mexico.
