House Republicans finally advance two incredible pieces of legislation

Republicans promised us the world if we gave them the House majority in 2022. So far, reactions to their actions out of the starting gate aren't great, but their latest legislative push is one that everyone should be able to get behind.

According to Breitbart, House Republicans this week put forward two important bills: one that will prevent biological males from competing in women's sports, and a bill that will give parents increased control over their childrens' educations.

H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act, as well as H.R.734 – Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023 were both brought to the House floor this week.

The bills were spearheaded by the Education and Workforce Committee.

More parental rights

Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) touted the Parents Bill of Rights Act at the beginning of March.

"It doesn’t matter [what] the color of your skin [is] or your wealth, when you have a child that is the most important thing in your life… one thing we know in this country, education is the great equalizer. We want to parents to feel empowered and that’s what we’re doing here," McCarthy said earlier this month.

The bill provides parents with rights concerning their childrens' educations, including the right to review their child’s school curriculum; "the right to 'know if the State alters the State’s challenging State academic standards; the right to see a list of the books and other reading materials in the library of their child’s school; the right to see the school’s budget and expenditures; and more,'" Breitbart noted.

Parental rights in schools quickly became a white-hot political topic in the lead-up to the 2022 midterms.

Republicans used the issue to score political victories across the country in both 2021 and 2022.

Females only

Any reasonable person understands that it will never be fair for a biological male to compete in any women's sport. That controversy has played itself out over the past few years and the result is always the same.

The aforementioned House committee advanced a bill to the House floor aimed at keeping males out of female sports, forever.

"It shall be a violation of subsection (a) for a recipient of Federal financial assistance who operates, sponsors, or facilitates athletic programs or activities to permit a person whose sex is male to participate in an athletic program or activity that is designated for women or girls," the bill says.

While Republicans will probably successfully vote in favor of the bills in the House, they're both unlikely to pass in the Senate. But even if its symbolic for now, this is the type of legislation that needs to repeatedly be pushed, as it's absolutely worthy of discussion, at the very least.
