House Republicans pass bill to overturn ATF pistol brace rule

House Republicans took a stand for gun rights this week by passing a bill to end the Biden administration's ban on pistol stabilizing braces.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced earlier this year that it was moving to reclassify most handguns equipped with stabilizing braces as short barreled rifles.

Those who fail to register their weapons face up to 10 years in prison

Under the National Firearms Act, rifles equipped with a barrel of less than 16 inches in length must be registered with the federal government at a cost of $200. Those who fail to comply can face up to a decade behind bars.

However, Breitbart reported that Georgia Republican Rep. Andrew Clyde and North Carolina Republican Rep. Richard Hudson put forward a piece of legislation to reverse the decision.

Clyde celebrated the bill's passage on Tuesday while slamming the Biden administration for its "latest tyrannical tactic."

Pistol braces originally developed to assist wounded veterans

Hudson put out a tweet of his own in which he declared that "Americans are tired of unelected bureaucrats making up new laws that infringe on their constitutional rights."

"A new regulation by President Joe Biden’s ATF on pistol braces has turned millions of combat-wounded veterans and law-abiding citizens into felons overnight," Hudson added in a press release.

"This travesty illustrates the dangers of an unchecked federal agency that is willing to go around Congress and the millions of constituents we represent," he continued.

Hudson's press release went on to recall how  pistol braces "were first designed and intended to help combat-wounded veterans fire large-format pistols and continue to exercise their Second Amendment rights."

Arizona congressman says White House has "weaponized the ATF"

Meanwhile, Arizona Republican Rep. Eli Crane put out a tweet of his own in which he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with Clyde as well as "fellow conservatives in this fight."

He also accused the White House of having "weaponized the ATF against Americans" and "shown a blatant disregard for the Constitution."

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
