House subcommittee calls on FBI to investigate Liz Cheney for witness tampering

Then-Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney said during a 2022 interview that President-elect Donald Trump should be prosecuted over the events of January 6.

However, a new congressional report suggests that Cheney may very well end up facing charges of her own.

Report: "Numerous federal laws were likely broken by Liz Cheney"

According to the Daily Mail, that report was released on Tuesday by House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk.

Loudermilk's work focused on the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack, which was assembled by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in July of 2021.

"Speaker Pelosi's multimillion-dollar Select Committee was a political weapon with a singular focus to deceive the public into blaming President Trump for the violence on January 6 and to tarnish the legacy of his first Presidency," the report stated.

"Based on the evidence obtained by this Subcommittee, numerous federal laws were likely broken by Liz Cheney, the former Vice Chair of the January 6 Select Committee, and these violations should be investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation," it continued.

Former legislator accused of witness tampering

The allegations against Cheney concern her relationship with Cassidy Hutchinson, a former Trump White House aide who subsequently testified against the president-elect.

"Evidence uncovered by the Subcommittee revealed that former Congresswoman Liz Cheney tampered with at least one witness, Cassidy Hutchinson, by secretly communicating with Hutchinson without Hutchinson's attorney's knowledge," the report alleged.

The Daily Mail noted that for her part, Cheney responded with a statement in which she lashed out at both Trump and Loudermilk's subcommittee.

"January 6th showed Donald Trump for who [he] really is. He watched television and refused for hours to instruct his supporters to stand down and leave," she declared.

Cheney: "No reputable lawyer, legislator or judge would take this seriously"

"Their allegations do not reflect a review of the actual evidence, and are a malicious and cowardly assault on the truth. No reputable lawyer, legislator or judge would take this seriously," the former lawmaker insisted.

Meanwhile, the man who formerly chaired the January 6 committee said earlier this week that he would accept a preemptive pardon from President Joe Biden.

"If he offers it, to me or other members of the committee, I think it, I would accept it, but it’s his choice," The Hill quoted Mississippi Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson as telling CNN host Jim Acosta.
