An Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer has shot and killed a suspect who tried to evade arrest.

The New York Post reports that the suspect injured one of the arresting officers.

The incident, as we will see, took place in Chicago, Illinois.

Here's what we know:

The local NBC 5 Chicago outlet reported on the incident.

Per the outlet:

According to a statement emailed to NBC Chicago by an Immigration Customs Enforcement spokesperson, officers attempted to stop a vehicle, but the person resisted. The person then attempted to drive the car into the arrest team, striking an agent and "subsequently dragging him as he fled the scene." The spokesperson said the agent, "fearing for his life," discharged his weapon and struck the driver.

This all took place on Friday in Fraklin Park. The area had to be locked down for some time, while these events unfolded.

NBC 5goes on to report:

Both the officer and driver were transported to a nearby hospital, the spokesperson said, and the suspect was pronounced dead. The agent sustained severe injuries and was listed in stable condition, the spokesperson added.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirms that the officer was dragged "a significant distance" by the suspect and his vehicle.

"We are praying..."

Many, including the Trump administration are praying for the recovery of the injured officer.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said:

We are praying for the speedy recovery of our law enforcement officer. He followed his training, used appropriate force, and properly enforced the law to protect the public and law enforcement.

This all comes as President Donald Trump and his administration are looking to crack down on illegal immigration in Chicago.

The Post reports:

The shooting comes as ICE is a little less than a week into an immigration enforcement operation in Chicago that it has dubbed “Midway Blitz.” McLaughlin said that “viral social media videos and activists encouraging illegal aliens to resist law enforcement” have made the work of their officers more dangerous.

You read that right. There are people who are actually trying to stop law enforcement agents from doing their job to make the community a safer place. The Trump administration, though, is not backing down.
