Ilhan Omar says stripping her of committee assignments is 'racist'

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has warned for months that three Democratic members of Congress would be stripped of their committee assignments.

One of them is Minnesota Rep. Ilham Omar, who McCarthy has condemned for making antisemitic statements. However, Omar insists that the House speaker's real motive is racism.

The far-left congresswoman made that claim in a tweet last Thursday, insisting that removing her from committees is "racist, xenophobic and discriminatory."

Elimination of voices

"As the only African born, not being on the Africa subcommittee is not just an elimination of a unique voice but an elimination of all the voices that have never been heard on a committee on the continent," Omar insisted.

According to Fox News, Omar voiced a similar claim while speaking on Sunday with MSNBC anchor Yasmin Vossoughian.

"I think it would be hypocritic [sic] for him to remove, you know, the first African born on subcommittee on Africa on the Foreign Affairs Committee, where I’ve had the opportunity to not only represent my constituents but the voice of so many people who have never had a voice on the Foreign Affairs Committee," Omar said.

Omar unaware

Fox News noted that Omar professed ignorance about antisemitic stereotypes during an interview this past weekend with CNN host Dana Bash, adding that she had learned "a lot" from her Jewish House colleagues.

"I certainly did not or was not aware that the word 'hypnotized' was a trope," Omar asserted, referring to a since deleted 2012 tweet in which she complained that "Israel has hypnotized the world."

"I wasn’t aware of the fact that there are tropes about Jews and money," she continued. "That has been a very enlightening part of this journey."

"To insinuate that I knowingly said these things when people have read into my comments to make it sound as if I have something against the Jewish community is so wrong," Omar declared.

Others ejected

Omar is not the only Democrat that Republicans are giving the boot, as California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell are also being stripped of their committee assignments.

During an interview earlier this month with Fox News, McCarthy pointed to Swalwell's past romantic association with a Chinese spy.

"Swalwell can’t get a security clearance in the private sector. I’m not going to give him a government security clearance," the speaker declared.

" A free people [claim] their rights, as derived from the laws of nature."
