Indian actor Junior Mehmood dies at 67

Actor Junior Mehmood has passed away at the age of 67. 

The Indian Express reports that Mehmood - whose real name was Naeem Sayyed - died from stomach cancer.

The outlet has released a statement from Mehmood's family, which reads, "Junior Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace."

The outlet also quotes Mehmood's son Husnain as revealing:

We came to know about his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. We took him to Tata Memorial Hospital. The dean there told us that treatment and chemotherapy at this stage would be very painful. The hospital had suggested that we take care of him at home.

After Johny Lever paid a visit to Jr. Mehmood at his Mumbai residence a few days ago, Jr. Mehmood's old friends and veteran actors Jeetendra and Sachin Pilgaonkar also visited their ailing firend at his residence on Tuseday to fulfill his last wish.

In addition to the above photographs, a video of the encounter - between Mehmood, Jeetendra, and others -  has also been posted to social media.

Who was Junior Mehmood?

Mehmood was an Indian actor who had a long and successful career that began during his childhood years.

Indian Express reports:

Junior Mehmood began his film career as a child artiste with Mohabbat Zindagi Hai (1966). He went on to star in movies like Naunihal, Caravan, Haathi Mere Saathi, Mera Naam Joker, Suhaag Raat, Brahmachari, Kati Patang, Hare Raama Hare Krishna, Geet Gaata Chal, Imaandaar, Baap Numbri Beta Dus Numbri, Aaj Ka Arjun, Gurudev, Chhote Sarkar and Judaai. The actor had a brief television stint with shows like Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara and Ek Rishta Saajhedari Ka. He also produced and directed several Marathi movies.

Mehmood worked with Jeetendra during the 60s and 70s. It had been some time since they last saw each other.

After Jeetendra's recent visit with Mehmood, he said:

[Mehmood] is in so much pain, he is unable to open his eyes. To see him in so much pain - he is unable to open his yees - To see him in this state breaks my heart.

Mehmood is survived by his wife, Lata, and his two sons.
