Insider claims Elon Musk 'shoved' Trump's treasury secretary
The latest rumor is that Elon Musk got into a physical altercation with Scott Bessent, the Trump administration's Secretary of the Treasury.
The Daily Mail reports that the rumor comes from former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
The White House of President Donald Trump seemed to confirm the rumor, or at least the fact that Musk and Bessent had some kind of disagreement.
This all comes as Musk's time with the Trump administration has reached its end. While many in the mainstream media are trying to claim Musk is leaving because he and Trump did not see eye-to-eye, Trump and Musk are claiming that Musk is leaving because his time as a special government employee has expired.
The claim
According to Bannon, the shove came after Bessent confronted Musk on the fact that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has not cut as much waste, fraud, and abuse from government as Musk claimed that it would.
Bannon said:
'Scott Bessent called him out and said, 'You promised us a trillion dollars (in cuts), and now you're at like $100 billion, and nobody can find anything, what are you doing?'' the prominent MAGA figure revealed. 'And that's when Elon got physical. It's a sore subject with him. 'It wasn't an argument, it was a physical confrontation. Elon basically shoved him.'
Bannon went on to claim that Trump took Bessent's side.
"I don't think Bessent has any bad blood, but he's got a job to do and he's going to do it," he added.
The big question is how much of this story is fact and how much is fiction.
White House responds
The White House has been asked about the situation.
Here's what White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said:
'Trump 100%' sided with Bessent after the clash, he added. 'I don't think Bessent has any bad blood, but he's got a job to do and he's going to do it'. Disagreements are a normal part of any healthy policy process, and ultimately everyone knows they serve at the pleasure of President Trump.
Neither Musk nor Trump has addressed the subject. We do not really know whether or not there was a shove from Musk.
One thing worth remembering is that there is some bad blood between Musk and Bannon.
Musk continues to argue that DOGE has been a success, saving over $150 billion in about 4 months. He fully believes that DOGE could reach the $1 trillion savings goal within the next year.
