IRS official found targeting conservatives running key tax division

The turnover in Washington is still underway, and more and more non-elected officials, formally embedded by various administrations, are still being found wanting by the Trump administration.

In this case, an official has been called out by an independent group as being possibly corrupt and involved in targeting non-liberal compliant groups from within the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), as The Daily Caller reported.

An IRS official who was involved in a major controversy during Obama's administration and was elevated by Biden now controls a crucial branch of the tax collection agency, and a government watchdog organization is demanding his resignation.

Holly Paz is now designated as the commissioner of the IRS's Large Business and International Division, yet she was Lois Lerner's senior deputy throughout her tenure at the agency. Lerner and the Obama IRS are accused of targeting political opponents.

The Discovery

The American Accountability Foundation (AAF), which is a right-leaning government watchdog organization, sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday calling out the IRS official.

The letter demanded that Paz be fired because of her connections to a notorious instance in which the federal government treated American taxpayers differently based on their political affiliation.

“The American Accountability Foundation has launched an investigation into the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for issues pertaining to partisanship and its continued targeting of conservatives,”  AAF wrote in its letter to Bessent.

“Our first finding of this investigation is that the former top deputy to Louis Lerner — Holly Paz — regained a high-ranking position within the IRS during the Biden Administration.

"Paz was placed on leave and ousted from her role at the IRS in 2013 amid allegations she targeted conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status.”

More Nails in her Political Coffin

Paz currently oversees The Large Business and International Division which is “responsible for tax administration activities for domestic and foreign businesses with a United States tax reporting requirement and assets equal to or exceeding $10 million as well as the Global High Wealth and International Individual Compliance programs,” according to the IRS.

In 2017, the IRS issued an apology for its actions surrounding the Tea Party scandal, which alleged that the Obama administration unfairly targeted conservative organizations seeking tax-exempt status.

Problems in Liberal Paradise

This is problematic for a few reasons, many of which were outlined by AAF in their letter to the Treasury secretary:

“With allegations that the IRS maintains political bias and is still targeting conservatives, Paz cannot be allowed to maintain a role in the IRS,” the letter concludes.

“Taxpayers deserve to have faith in those that receive a government salary and Paz has proved undeserving of the honor to serve the American public. The American Accountability Foundation will continue to investigate IRS leadership and implores the Trump administration to root out any anti-conservative partisan bias at the IRS.”
