J.D. Vance refuses to give into critics

U.S. Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) has made it abundantly clear that he will not be giving in to critics who have criticized him for some remarks that he has recently made about illegal immigrants.

Fox News reports that Vance - former President Donald Trump's running mate - said as much at a campaign event on Thursday.

This all has to be music to the ears of Trump, considering that he often complained about his former running mate's - Ex-Vice President Mike Pence - lack of fighting spirit.

There can be no question about the fact that Vance is a fighter.

Here is what is going on:

Vance has been the subject of much criticism since becoming Trump's running mate. This is something that Vance likely expected, and it appears that he was ready for it.

One of the most recent criticisms came after Vance referred to Haitian immigrants and "illegal aliens."

Fox explains:

Vance was asked at a campaign event about why he was referring to migrants from Haiti in towns like Springfield, Ohio, as "illegal aliens" when many of them have come in through the parole processes for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans (CHNV) or are protected from deportation via Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

In other words, the critics are trying to claim that because these immigrants used a "legal" means to enter the country they are not "illegal" immigrants.

Vance, though, was having none of this.

"I'm still going to call them an illegal alien"

Vance effectively and efficiently explained why it is that he still calls these individuals "illegal immigrants."

"The media loves to say that the Haitian migrants — hundreds of thousands of them, by the way, 20,000 in Springfield, but hundreds of thousands of them all across the country — they are here legally," he began.

Vance continued:

And what they mean is that Kamala Harris used two separate programs, mass parole and Temporary Protected Status. She used two programs to wave a wand and to say, we're not going to deport those people here. Well, if Kamala Harris waves the wand illegally and says these people are now here legally, I'm still going to call them an illegal alien. An illegal action from Kamala Harris does not make any alien legal. That is not how this works.

Although Vance has been facing his fair share of criticism, the Harris-Biden administration continues to face significant criticism for its handling of the southern border crisis. Polls have consistently indicated that it is one of the top issues in the 2024 presidential election.

Both Vance and Trump have attempted to pin blame for the situation on Harris given that Biden made her the border "czar." Harris and company, however, have tried to claim that this is a false narrative.
